NCIS: Los Angeles - The First Season

A Different Town, A Different Team...
"NCIS: Los Angeles" is a spin-off of the popular TV drama series "NCIS", short for Naval Criminal Investigative Service. NCIS: LA, first pitched in a cross-over episode on NCIS, features the work of an undercover team from the Office of Special Projects, located in a confiscated villa in Los Angeles. Its mission is to deal with criminals, terrorists and spies who threaten national security.

"NCIS: Los Angeles", a younger, hipper version of the original, took a little while to find its footing. Its early selling point was the wonderful buddy team chemistry of special agents G. Callen and Sam Hanna, played with zest by Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J. Their verbal sparring and collaboration is a highlight of the show.

The team roster took awhile to settle. The increasing prominence given Linda Hunt as eccentric Operations Manager Hetty Lange provided balance and wry humor. Daniela Ruah as field agent Kensi Blye quickly established her street credentials; the...

Can outdo its predecessor!
As an avid fan of the original NCIS series, I was happy to hear that a spinoff would be introduced!
I've only every seen Chris O'Donnell in Greys Anatomy, and only heard of LL Cool J, Danielle Ruah, etc. as part of the series. But they top off an amazing series that I surprisingly prefer to the original!

Although I love the witty banter of the Gibbs team, the upbeat comedy they integrate into the LA series (particular Sam and G!) cracks me upp time after time. Nate brings a whole new characteristic to NCIS, where profiling suspects is lacked in the original seriesm whilst Hetty provides a mothering comic relief to the series. Dom, Kensi and Eric also appear frequently, and add a new dimension the original series does not. You may grow tired of just the Gibbs team, but the other agents provide a refreshing new outlook. It also manages to integrate well with the original, frequently including Abby and Vance.

Overall, aside from being a crime procedural, it...

Some technical details
Very good TV serie. If not, I wouldn't have bought it.

I give only here some precisions for languages useful for foreign customers like me.

Audio : English and French for all episodes.

Subtitles : English, Spanish and Portuguese.

French subtitles for episodes 1 and 2 (spin offs from NCIS East coast), and for all the extras (discs 1 and 6).

Remaining of episodes are not French subtitled, but you can listen them in French like mentionned above.

Gunsmoke: The Fourth Season, Vol. 1

Correcting an error...
You may recall that when Season 2, Vol. 1 of Gunsmoke was released, it accidentally substituted an episode entitled "How to Cure a Friend" (airdate November 10, 1956) with one from this season entitled "How to Kill a Friend" (airdate November 22, 1958).

Well, as a solution, the season 2 episode in question is being included as a bonus feature on this set. It's not the best solution they could have used, but at least they have now given us the missing episode. "Sponsor spots" are also listed as a bonus feature.

The Earlier Gunsmokes Are Outstanding
I'm 61 and, as a kid, I remember enjoying the early Gunsmokes when Dennis Weaver was part of the cast as Chester. I didn't realize just how terrific the series was until its release on dvd and watching it from an adult perspective. I've been watching the hour episodes on Encore Western channel as well, when Chester was still a character on the show (Dennis Weaver left in 1964) and these early episodes are uncompromising in their outcome. Likeable characters are often killed. You just never know what is going to be the outcome of a particular situation. John Meston and Kathleen Hite are two writers who have been responsible for many of these outstanding pre-1965 Gunsmokes. The chemistry among the cast (Matt, Kitty, Doc, Chester) is perfection. I agree with everyone that all subsequent seasons should have been released as one volume like season 1. Since they're not, I'll pay the price. I have to own these.

oldie but a goodie!!!
I'M GLAD THEY ARE FINALLY RELEASING THE NEXT INSTALLMENT OF GUNSMOKE! IT IS WELL WORTH THE WAIT, BUT BY THE TIME THEY GET AROUND TO RELEASING ALL (?) THE SEASONS, I PROBABLY WON'T BE AROUND TO ENJOY THEM!! AT LEAST CUT THE TIME IN HALF AND RELEASE THEM AT THE COMPLETE SEASONS EDITIONS INSTEAD OF VOL. 1 & VOL 2. WHICH BY THE WAY, IS PROBABLY WHY THEY ARN'T SELLING REAL GOOD!!!
I LOVED THE SHOW THEN,(WHEN I WAS A CHILD) AND I LOVE THEM NOW (60).

A WESTERN LOVER,
LARRY w.

Perry Mason: Season Five, Vol. 2

I love Perry Mason
What can I say? The episodes, as usual, are excellent. Raymond Burr is perfect as Perry Mason. The picture quality is perfect, the sound equally good. If you like the Perry Mason stories, this is another must for your collection. I just wish they would bring the seasons out more quickly.
The episodes in this set include:
Disc 1-
-The Case of The Shapely Shadow - 1/6/1962
-The Case of The Captain's Coins - 1/13/1962
-The Case of The Tarnished Trademark - 1/20/1962
-The Case of The Glamorous Ghost - 2/3/1962
Disc 2-
-The Case of The Poison Pen-Pal - 2/10/1962
-The Case of The Mystified Miner - 2/24/1962
-The Case of The Crippled Cougar - 3/3/1962
-The Case of The Absent Artist - 3/17/1962
Disc 3-

-The Case of The Angry Astronaut - 4/7/1962
-The Case of The Borrowed Baby - 4/14/1962
-The Case of The Counterfeit Crank - 4/28/1962
Disc 4-
-The Case of...

I'm excited about this release, but as usual, I will wait
I have all the PM releases to date but $37.00 for a half-season is a bit too pricey for me. I always wait a little while and will pick it up for less than $30. It's worth waiting for. This is such a great show.

Yay, another Perry Mason
I have all the discs so far and watched them twice. I like the set-up of Perry as top, well known, single attorney with loyal secretary (mmmm) and detective Paul Drake.

The episodes so far also convey a lot of the late 50's and early 60's re style in clothing with their many yards of material and the sumptuous cars!! It seems every car is a new and different one, mostly convertibles and it seems all Fords unless someone knows otherwise. I even saw an Edsel in an opening shot. All the cars were huge. They could fit Perry, Della and Paul in the front seat!

Looking forward to this set.

Have Gun Will Travel: Season Five, Volume One

Have Gun will Travel
I have been a fan of Have Gun Will Travel since I first saw it during the 1950s. It was the precursor of Kung Fu. In both cases the central character was "a knight without armor in a savage land." Both series also emphasized moral values through the central character's emphasis on helping those in need. Both series also had a distinct intellectual bent. In the case of Paladin the emphasis was placed on Western philosophy with quotable quotes by Paladin from major philosophers in conjunction with challenging ethical quagmires. Kane, the central character in Kung Fu and other characters such as Masters Han and Poe, also provided similar insights with an oriental thrust. In the final analysis, Have Gun Will Travel is one of the best TV series that ever hit the airways.

However I also agree with the comments offered by another reviewer regarding corporate greed. The pricing of this series is nothing more than a transparent ploy to make as much money as possible at the...

Best series of all time
In my opinion. While I can understand the thoughts above concerning pricing and split seasons, I'm just happy that we may actually get all six seasons completed by end of next year.

Paladin keeps on riding!
I am surprised and overjoyed that Paramount continues to release Have Gun - Will Travel so quickly now, just 1 1/2 seasons to go to have the whole restored set. Thanks, Paramount

Californication: The Third Season

Still as strong as ever
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Season 3 was at least as strong as Season 2, if not stronger, which is quite a feat of writing.

Duchovny is masterful throughout, and his stunning chemistry with his screen muse Karen, is the cornerstone of what has been an unparalleled series.

Yep, it's strictly adult entertainment, and it needs to be seen as, to paraphrase the beautiful Embeth Davidtz, a mockumetary of the crazy, no-consequence LA life that it is portraying. The show, from the beginning, has been a parody of itself, but it works.

As we go into Season 4, Hank will be facing some major challenges, partly due to his poor, reactive handling of the Mia situation in the Season 3 finale.

Interesting times ahead.

PURCHASE = No Censorship
As a fan of the series up to this point I almost did not purchase this season via Video On Demand due to the negative reviews written here. Magically enough if you purchase the season or episodes you get the full pleasure of enjoying the series as it was meant to be viewed. It is not such a far stretch that Amazon would not allow a free viewing of a series with this sort of content without applying some sort of buffer to it...it was simply a courteous way to offer an insight into the direction of this season. If you like the show than purchase the season and it won't disappoint...if you are new to the show than start at season one...and in closing...don't complain about free.

3.5 Stars--Men behaving badly
What is one to make of the third season of Showtime's raunchfest about the misadventures of self-destructive author Hank Moody? Season three is full of the usual debauchery that has propelled the series, but at the same time it seems to be lacking the depth and heart that made the first two seasons so compelling. Don't get me wrong, this is still an enormously entertaining season, but it borders on farce as Hank juggles relationships with three women at the same time sans any signs of remorse and basically glides through season three without having to face any consequences for his actions--until a season finale that is essentially disconnected from the events leading up to it. It's all very complicated and frustrating and results in Californication's most uneven season to date. But there just may be a method to the madness.

Season three follows Hank as he takes a teaching job at a university which affords him plenty of opportunities to rail against the "establishment"...

CSI: NY - The Sixth Season

CSI NY fun
I simply love CSI NY and this season is living up to my expectations as I never got to see it on TV when it was aired. Gary Sinise is just brilliant. I loved the fact that they provided both CSI and CSI Miami for the crossover shows.

CSI N.Y.
This should have been excellent, I certainly expected to sit down and enjoy my evenings with Mac Taylor and his team. I have been surprised to find that this series of CSI has even exceeded the other two - certainly left the original Las Vegas one lagging a long way behind - and I waited a long time for season six. What a horror!!!! I assume these DVD's are put out by CBS and I have to state that they need to pay real attention to what is being replicated for the paying public. I have had THREE copies of this season and all three have appalling sound problems - to the extent where it completely spoils my enjoyment. Please CBS DO something about this. I am waiting with trepidation for season 7 - will it be as bad? I hope not - I do not want my love affair with Mac to come to such an ignominious end!

Action packed
I am a true fan of CSI New York, it is my second favourite crime drama (CSI Miami being my first) and I truly enjoyed this season, am currently watching the present season and liking that also. These CSI programmes prove to be extremely insightful and you learn quite a lot about forensics.

War of the Worlds: The Final Season

Its about time!
Hooray!!! Finally they are finally going to release season 2! A much darker season than the first with the introduction of a new alien species to battle the martians. A must have if you have season 1.

Thank Goodness
Oh, I am soooo thankful that this was released. Despite everyone else's hate on the second season, I liked the darker tone of the second season. Plus, Adrian Paul joins the cast and this was Rachel Blanchard's television debut before taking on the lead role in the TV series "Clueless." Now I know why I was in love with Adrian Paul when I was growing up and it was NOT the Highlander series.

At last, the second season has arrived!!!!
When I purchased the first season five years ago, I wondered how long would it be before
the second season would be available. Now my prayers have been answered.

Beverly Hills, 90210: The Tenth and Final Season

Horrendous
I'm a big fan of the original 90210, but come on. The second Brandon left the show, it was over.
Seasons 9 & 10 were dreadful. Painful to watch. And the last straw was bringing Dylan's father
back. So I guess Toni died for nothing...

Just as good as I remember
Love it, I love that this dvd is available to take me back when I watched it on tv :)

Beverly HIlls 90210 season 10
I have been waiting for the final season to be released for ALONG time!! I am so glad that Amazon has it. I am very grateful to the Amazon Customer Service who when my original copy was sent but I never received it they turned around and sent me a new one free of charge. Thank you SO much for that I really appreciate it. I will continue to purchase items from Amazon.com!!!
